I moved up and down the northeast corridor between Philadelphia and Boston. After graduating from veterinary school in 2002, I returned to New York for an incredibly intense year as an intern in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center. Emergency was my favorite rotation because it was so satisfying to see the immediate results of successful intervention in critical cases.

Additionally, interns had more freedom and fewer administrative duties so we could spend our time helping each other work through cases and moving things along efficiently. I’ve been fortunate to work in a variety of clinics, Adobe being an excellent example, with similarly collegial environments, including a full time Emergency and Referral hospital in Waltham, MA, a day practice in South San Jose and the San Jose Animal Shelter. I joined the staff at Adobe in the spring of 2008. I had heard great things about Adobe while living as far away as Boston. It wasn’t until my cat, Oscar, developed a urinary blockage that I experienced the excellent care available at Adobe. Since Oscar was not a terribly cooperative patient, I spent a lot of time visiting and working with him while he was in the hospital. As a result, I became well acquainted with the ICU nurses, the front office staff and all the veterinarians involved his care. Six days, one surgery and one blood transfusion later, Oscar came home and has since made a full recovery – thank you Drs Koga, Clifton and Rogers! When not seeing afternoon and evening urgent care patients, I’m home with our two young sons, Matthew and Owen.
